Loom Business is $15–18 per user per month, depending on how you are billed: $180–216 a year, every year, for as long as you keep recording. OwnClip Pro is $39, once. A Loom subscription passes the entire price of OwnClip within three months, and in year one alone the difference is roughly $140–180 per person.
The free tiers are different in kind, too. Loom Starter caps how many videos you can keep in your library and how long each can run. OwnClip Free has the core toolkit switched on (camera AI, noise removal, the full editor, Smart Zoom, transcription), and caps the take instead (3-minute recordings at 720p with a watermark). You can evaluate the product on real work before paying anything.
Every Loom recording uploads to Loom's servers. That is what makes the instant link work, and it also means your screen recordings (often the most sensitive video you make: internal tools, customer data, credentials half-visible in a tab) live on infrastructure you don't control, under a subscription you have to keep paying to retain access on paid-plan terms.
OwnClip inverts this. Recording, editing, camera effects, and transcription all run on your Mac. Files save to your local disk as standard MP4s: no proprietary format, no lock-in.
