How OwnClip updates itself, how to check what version you are on, and the fastest way to report a bug or ask for a feature.
OwnClip ships often. We aim for a release every week or two, usually a mix of fixes and small features. The News page is the source of truth for what each version contains.
OwnClip updates itself in the background
OwnClip checks for new releases when you launch it and roughly once a day after that. When a new version is ready, you'll see a small "Update available" prompt. Accept it and the app relaunches into the new version. No App Store, no admin password.
Force a check from the menu
OwnClip → Check for Updates… runs the check on demand. If you are already on the latest version, OwnClip will tell you so. This is the fastest way to confirm a fix has shipped.
See what version you are on
OwnClip → About OwnClip shows your installed version. The same number is on every shared link footer if you need to ask a teammate which build they are running.
Manual download as a fallback
If auto-update fails (firewall, captive portal, sandbox quirk) you can always download the latest DMG from ownclip.io/download and drag it to /Applications; your license stays activated.
OwnClip is currently in beta, and bugs happen. We read every email and triage them daily. The faster you give us the details below, the faster we can ship a fix to your machine.

Even one sentence each helps us tell whether it is a bug or a missing feature.

OwnClip is a screen recorder, so feel free to use it on itself. Drop the file or share-link in the email; it speeds up triage by a lot.
A note on beta
OwnClip is currently distributed as beta software. Features may be added, changed, or removed as we iterate. Buying Pro or Studio licenses the current major version in its current state, not a specific roadmap item or future feature. The full story is in our Terms of Service.
